A group of animal lovers dedication to promote retention, help, and education.
To help keep pets in good homes with people who love them, we established a pet food bank and emergency veterinary fund. We distributed more than 40,000 pounds of pet food in 2020, and expect to do even more in 2021. We provide dog and cat food for UCHRA meals on wheels recipients, the Pet Food Pantry, First Baptist Fishes & Loaves, and the commodity recipients. We have recently been able to help homeless people in our community with pet food as well. We also provide for a home health care network, people who foster cats, and people who are referred to (or contact) us. We take dog treats to the White County Animal Shelter. Our emergency vet fund helps people who cannot afford unexpected expenses.
We have purchased and donated pet resuscitation masks for emergency vehicles to save lives of pets and partner with Sparta Veterinary services to provide "Rescue Me" decals to alert emergency personnel that pets are inside. We proudly contributed to the White County Sheriff canine vehicle and enthusiastically support plans and mission for their canine program.
We provide a "Kindness to Animals" curriculum structured by grade levels 1-6 and a bi-monthly publication "Kind News", which is used in after school programs in elementary and middle school and a home school network.
The Special Education class at White County High School repackages dog food, and Boy Scout Troop 128 repackages cat food, providing the opportunity to connect education about kindness to animals with action that help them.
We enjoy helping the White County Animal Shelter produce the weekly adoption ad with the objective of finding homes for shelter dogs, and advocation for adoption from shelters. The Sparta Expositor publishes the ads as a public service. Several of our board members have adopted dogs from our shelter.
We support White County Humane Society's spay and neuter mission by providing contact information at all pet food distribution spots. We talk with community members about pet overpopulation and the importance of spay and neutering. We also partner to sponsor the annual chili dinner to raise funds for spay and neuter.
We provide treats for business with drive through windows as fun way to advocate for animals and participate in events; including Essentials Earth Day, Liberty Square, Upper Cumberland Pet Expo, and Northfield Vineyards Market to raise awareness about the need to help animals. We also write "Happy Tails" stories from people who are lifelines for animals, which are published in the Sparta Expositor.
Friends of White County Animals (FWCA) was formed as a 501 c 3 non-profit organization in June of 2012 to promote the well-being of all animals, in particular in White County, Tennessee.
FWCA's objectives include but are not limited to:
Participating in community outreach programs that encourage responsible pet guardianship
Partnering with the White County Humane Society and local veterinarians to further their spay/neuter efforts
